In this course, students learn pattern making and design of western saddles and tack. Repair techniques including, relining, restringing, replacing or repairing broken parts and hardware are all part of the curriculum. Additionally, the curriculum covers the repair and construction of tack, bridles, halters, breast collars, chaps and chinks.

Saddlemaking coursework provides learning experiences in advanced pattern making for western saddles and tack. Topics include the study of designs, styles and variations of saddle trees, riggings and stirrups, with emphasis on fitting both the horse and rider.
